Sacraments and Prayer

Each school day begins and ends with communal prayer. During morning prayer, students, faculty, and staff reflect on Scripture and then recite together a different prayer each month from our Catholic tradition. The school day concludes with a mini-examination of conscience as the community is invited to think about their actions as we pray the Act of Contrition together.

In addition to school-wide prayer, teachers also incorporate devotional time into their class routine and pray a blessing before meals before snack and lunch.

Individual classes also participate in weekly Adoration, going to St. Ann Catholic Church to spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Students are also invited to join the school’s Rosary Club, which meets weekly and frequently hosts after school whole community rosary events.

K-5 students attend Mass weekly, on Fridays at 8:30am, and PreK and TK students attend Mass on the first Friday of each month. Older students take a leadership role in the Mass by helping their younger prayer partners follow along and participate (grades 3-5), singing in the choir (grades 4-5), or serving on the altar (boys in grades 3-5).

Confession is offered quarterly for students in the upper grades, with teachers taking the time to help students learn how to examine their conscience and prepare for both Confession and Mass.

Throughout the year, many school-wide and classroom devotional activities take place in keeping with the rhythm of the Catholic liturgical year. Students participate in a Living Rosary at least once a year, during a Marian month or on a Marian feast. All Saints Day is celebrated throughout the school with a 2nd grade wax museum, 3rd grade “Dinner with the Saints,” and PreK and Kindergarten saint parades. During the season of Advent, the whole school joins in Advent prayer reflections to prepare for the birth of Christ. Fifth grade students lead the school in a Living Stations meditation during the season of Lent. In May, the whole school, led by 2nd grade in their First Communion attire, crowns the statue of Mary in the school’s Mary Garden.
